Welcome students to today's Korfball session. We will begin by exploring the history and fundamental rules of Korfball, a unique and exciting team sport.

History of Korfball

Korfball was invented in 1902 by Nico Broekhuysen, a Dutch school teacher, as a mixed-gender sport. It is designed to promote teamwork and equality, with both men and women playing together on the same team. Today, Korfball is played in over 60 countries and has grown to become a well-recognized international sport.

Basic Rules of Korfball

In Korfball, the objective is to score points by throwing the ball through the opponent's korf (basket). Each team consists of eight players: four males and four females. The game is played on a rectangular court divided into two zones: attack and defense. Players are assigned to zones and cannot cross into the other zone during play.

Key Positions on the Court

  • Attacker: Players positioned in the attacking zone focus on scoring by maneuvering the ball and creating shooting opportunities.
  • Defender: Players in the defensive zone aim to prevent the opposing team from scoring by marking attackers and intercepting passes.

Remember, in Korfball, the spirit of the game emphasizes cooperation and fair play. Let's get ready to delve into the skills and strategies that make Korfball such an exciting sport!
